Rugby Shorts
George Andrews was like many players of his day and started playing rugby union but eventually moved to rugby league to play professionally and it was on this day in 1989 that the wing passed away.
While still playing rugby union with Newport Rugby Football Club, Andrews earned 5 caps for Wales. He scored 2 tries against England, one in his debut, and one against France.
Andrews was part of Newport RFC during the ‘invincible’ season of 1922/23 and was selected to face two touring sides, the 1924 New Zealand All Blacks and 1926 Maoris.
In 1927 he made the move to the money and rugby league. He joined Leeds Rugby League for £600.
