All Blacks and Blues midfield back Luke McAlister confirmed he has officially signed a three-year deal with French club Toulouse.
The 27-year-old will head to France at the conclusion of his 2011 commitments in New Zealand.
McAlister returned to New Zealand in 2009 after spending two years with the Sale Sharks in Manchester.
"At the end of my Sale contract I returned home to be near my family. This year, I've really enjoyed my season with the Blues and I'm glad it's not over yet," said McAlister.
"I'm extremely grateful to the NZRU, the Blues and North Harbour for the support they have shown me during my time in New Zealand. Being involved with these teams is truly something special, definitely life-changing, and the experiences and friendships will last forever.
"Looking ahead, the opportunity to play French rugby and live in France with my partner and children will be something totally different to what we're all used to, but it will be an exciting new chapter in our lives."
Blues coach Pat Lam said McAlister had played well when he was last in the northern hemisphere and has always attracted a lot of interest abroad.
Said Lam: "Luke performed well for Sale and it was no secret there has been interest in him for quite some time - particularly from Toulouse.
"When Luke and his family head off to France, they will be missed by the Blues but go with our best wishes."
McAlister currently has 30 All Blacks Test caps, 48 for the Blues and 50 for North Harbour.
He made his All Blacks debut in 2005 in the third Test against the British & Irish Lions.
The 2002 IRB Under-19 Player of the Year, McAlister was also the Blues' top points-scorer in 2005. He has represented three other national sides in New Zealand - the New Zealand Maori, Colts and Junior All Blacks
