The Hurricanes start their Super Rugby season with a tough three week tour to South Africa and Australia and will hope for some early points on the road.

The Wellington franchise are a new-look side this year with several of last season's stalwarts no longer on their books, but coach Mark Hammett has faith in his youngsters.

Experienced centre Conrad Smith will lead the team this season and can rely on All Blacks colleagues Victor Vito and Cory Jane for support.

The 'Canes first order of business is in South Africa, where they will tackle the Stormers and Lions, before heading to Perth to face the Western Force.
