Cheetahs maul Griffons

The Cheetahs won their second game in three days as their Super Rugby pre-season preparations gathered momentum, when they mauled the hapless Griffons 38-7 in Welkom.

As was the case in their 33-20 win over a motivated Bulldogs/Eagles combination at the weekend, the Cheetahs' second stringers failed to convince.

However, the six tries to one margin shows that there is certainly some back-up personnel putting their hands up for a regular starting place.

The Cheetahs again lost too much possession, especially at the breakdown, but the match provided valuable game time for the Bloemfontein-based franchise.

Players who put their hands up[ include midfielders like Riaan Smit, Barry Geel and Matthew Rosslee.
