England scrumhalf Ben Youngs is excited by the prospect of interim coach Stuart Lancaster picking a few young and talented players in his Six Nations squad to breathe some new life into the Red Roses.
The Six Nations 'caretaker' coach will be desperate to make an impression in his time at the helm with a view to securing a full-time position along with his assistant Andy Farrell and Graham Rowntree, and Youngs believes that picking some of the young players currently lighting up the Premiership would be the right strategy.
With players like the electric Chris Ashton and Ben Foden, young inside back Owen Farrell and Youngs' Leicester Tigers teammate Manu Tuilagi set to play a leading role for England in the coming years, the scrumahlf believes that the future looks very bright despite the tough times experienced after the fall-out from the World Cup.
"I think it will be very exciting, if that is the way we're going," the scrumhalf told the Daily Mail.
"There are so many talented youngsters around the country and with Stu (Lancaster) in charge, if we're directed in the right way, hopefully we can play a great brand of rugby, exciting stuff. New faces always bring a new buzz and a new energy," he added.
Lancaster has coached the England Saxons team, so he is very familiar with the promising talent on offer in the country, and he is expected to trim some of the dead wood with a couple of veterans likely to face the axe.
Players like Mike Tindall, Mark Cueto and Nick Easter, who featured regularly under Martin Johnson, could face a tough battle in holding on to their England jerseys if Lancaster does indeed bring a new broom to sweep things clean in the national set-up after an embarrassing 2011.
Youngs admitted that the new faces in the set-up will bring a new energy that will keep all of the players on their toes.
He commented: "Because it is a clean slate, everyone is intrigued to see what is going to happen, how we're going to play and who's going to play.
"Even someone like Floody (Toby Flood), who has got 40-odd caps now, is as excited as anyone else about what's going to happen with England. I just hope I'll be involved."
