The 12 Men’s Eagle Sevens players that will battle for Series points in the final two tournaments in the 2011-2012 HSBC Sevens World Series has been named and will depart for the U.K. today (Monday April 30). The Eagles will play in the Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens at Scotstoun Stadium on May 5-6 and the Marriott London Sevens at Twickenham on May 11-12.

The USA is currently at #10 in the World Series, with Kenya and Scotland just one point behind the Eagles, making for a crucial Pool A matchup with Kenya in Glasgow.

USA Head Coach, Alexander Magleby, will look for the 12 players to continue to improve and build on the progress made in Hong Kong and Tokyo in March.

Justin Boyd claimed his spot on the USA team, the single change Magleby made from the squad in Hong Kong and Tokyo stops. Magleby did have to call up an injury replacement for Nick Edwards in Tokyo, however.

Edwards is fully recovered and has been named to the team, a welcome addition to the team in terms of experience and pace.

The stalwarts of the Series this season will provide leadership to the improving team in the U.K. Mike Palefau, Shalom Suniula, Zack Test, Peter Tiberio, Folau Niua, and Colin Hawley have been selected for every tournament of the Series this season and provided much-needed consistency to the squad.

The big, powerful forward, Andrew Durutalo, has been impressive since his USA debut in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in December and his presence in the scrums and around the field is cause for concern for any opposition. Durutalo’s cohort in the forwards, Nu’u Punimata, is a physical force and a mobile option for Magleby.

In Hong Kong, the international rugby world was introduced to one Rocco Mauer whose pace was well documented in domestic play, but in Hong Kong and Tokyo, Mauer proved he was world-class speed.

Tai Enosa was impressive in March and has relished the opportunity to play more minutes. His speed and ability to make defenders miss is crucial, and Enosa has the ability to impact play in Scotland and London.

On Saturday May 5, the Eagles will face Australia (5:42 a.m. MST, 7:42 a.m. EST), England (9:10 a.m. EST/11:10 a.m. EST), and Kenya (11:15 a.m. MST/1:15 p.m. EST) in Pool A in Glasgow.
