Kockott is no joke

Rory Kockott was signed by Castres as a World Cup joker - there to fill in while France were playing in the Rugby World Cup. He has proved a joker capable of trumping the best of cards.

In successive weeks Kockott's boot has kicked winners for Castres that have put them in joint first place on the Top 14 log and earned the scrumhalf a proper contract to replace his joker one.

First Castres played Toulouse, France's most successful club in recent times, a side that normally wins. They played them at home at Stade Pierre Antoine and beat great Stade 24-3. Kockott kicked eight penalty goals. In other words he scored all 24 points.

The next week they went across to Montpellier to play last season's beaten finalists at Stade Yves du Manoir. Castres won 21-16 and Kockott kicked seven penalty goals. In other words he scored all 21 points.

No wonder they want to keep Kockott at Castres.
