The breakdown is a vital area of the game which presents the best opportunity for the opposition to win turnover ball so the actions of the ball carrier once he hits the ground are vital to keeping control of the ball.

Once tackled you should fall on your side with your body forming a "U" shape parallel to the touchline. It is at this stage that you should extend your arms fully, placing the ball as far away from the grasp of the opposition as possible.

This technique will will give your team the best possible chance of retaining possession and getting quick ball which will put them on the front foot in the next phase.
