Spur Tip of the Day - Part 22

Published: Thursday, 24. November, 2011 in category Beginner's Guide

In Part 22 of our daily rugby tips - brought to you by Spur Steak Ranches - we look at how best to approach taking a high ball to ensure you claim possession and ensure safety.

First of all it is important to examine the flight of the ball carefully so that you can position yourself as well as possible. Ideally you will have a stable base under the ball before you jump up to catch it.

As you spring up you should keep your hands high and ensure that your eyes are firmly on the ball, and not on any other players who may be competing with you.

You should time your jump so that you make contact with the ball at your highest point and pull the ball towards your chest as soon as it hits your hands.
