Danie Janse van Rensburg - Captain of Brackenfell

The last time Brackenfell played Interschools rivals Tygerberg, it didn't end all that well for Brackenfell. This Saturday, it's Interschools again and Brackenfell's skipper Danie Janse van Rensburg is hoping to have a better time of it when he leads his team out against Tygerberg in their FNB Classic Clash.

Last year Tygerberg ran out 64-6 winners and have been in good form throughout the season.

Danie is well aware of that but isn't daunted by the challenge his side will be facing.

"We've put a lot of hard work into our training for the game. And on the day we'll be doing our best on the field," the matric student told classicclashes.co.za.

And best is what Brackenfell will have to do as, they'll be without their star player and regular captain, Cheslin Kolbe, who will not be playing because of SA Sevens commitments next week.

Danie though is more than ready for the challenge of leading his side in the game. "I've captained the side before during this season so it's not a problem for me. We'll be playing for our school's pride and that should be all the motivation we will need," the flank said.

The youngster admits that rugby is something that he lives for and it's no wonder as his father played for the old Northern Transvaal and his grandfather ran out for South Western Districts.

While he does hold his forefathers' legacy in high regard, Danie regards Springbok flank Heinrich Brüssow as his rugby role model and is a big fan of another Springbok star, Patrick Lambie.

"Brüssow and I play the same position and we're from the same province, as I'm originally from the Free State. I admire Lambie because he's playing top level rugby at such a young age. It's something that aspire to do," the flanker admitted.

Danie is keen to continue with a rugby career, with club rugby as his immediate goal.
