Rudi de Klerk - Captain of Pacaltsdorp

Pacaltsdorp, just south of George, marches into George on Saturday to play George High School in an FNB Classic clash, and the Pacaltsdorp captain, Rudi de Klerk has high hopes of victory.

In fact he has more than that. He has no doubts that his team will win as they are "cooking" at the moment.

Their coach, Fanie Damons, who Rudi believes is excellent, has them out practising every day and they are raring to go. They have few matches in their widespread part of the world and they have had only five this year.

Rudi says he has a well-balanced side - strong forwards and dangerous backs. He is really looking forward to the match, saying with glee that George are their "biggest enemies". It will be a great day and "we will win", he says, perky as a scrumhalf can be.

Rudi Rasief de Klerk was born in Pacaltsdorp on 8 July 1993.

He went to primary school in Pacaltsdorp and played eighthman but when he came to the high school five years ago he switched to scrumhalf. "They said I was too small."

He has done well at the school, plays First XI cricket and is a prefect.

Academically he does really well, coming second at present in matric. There is a girl ahead of him, but he works hard at his books and hopes to head for Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth next year.

He would like to continue with his rugby at university and finds the idea of the Varsity Cup attractive.
