Brendan Fortuin: Captain of Bergrivier

Bergrivier skipper Brendan Fortuin may be the smallest player in his team, but the nippy scrumhalf enjoys a lot of respect from his charges who he will lead into battle against Weltverede this weekend.

Fortuin will have a key role to play in the big FNB Classic Clash at the Boland Stadium on Saturday as he looks to avenge last year's defeat to Weltevrede by unleashing Bergrivier's dangerous backline.

The pocket-sized scrumhalf models himself on Australian magician Will Genia and he lists his strengths as having a 'great pass' and having the ability to attack the space around the rucks with ferocity.

As a captain who also forms the vital link between the forward pack and the backline, Fortuin knows that he will have to communicate very clearly if his team is to have a chance of finishing on top this weekend.

Fortuin is well aware that Weltevrede have an intimidating forward pack and he believes that in order to beat them his dangerous backline will have to run them ragged.

He told classicclashes.co.za: "We will look to create space and break the tackles and then use our speed to catch them out. But they are a very physical side so we will also have to work very hard at the breakdown, we have two good flanks in the side this year so I am confident we will do well."

Despite the fact that Weltevrede managed to beat them last year, Fortuin explained that his team is full of confidence and they are ready to work hard in front of the big crowd expected.

"We didn't click last year but the team spirit is high, we have no major injuries and the team just wants to go out there and play hard and put in a good performance," he explained.
