Smit wary of wounded Wallabies

Springbok captain John Smit says the debutants won't be intimidated by a Wallaby side with all the motivation they require for a big performance following their shock loss to Samoa.

Critics of the Wallabies have already loudly voiced their disapproval of the Samoa result, and a loss to a South African 'B' team would add fuel to the fire.

"I suppose it's [Australia's defeat to Samoa] not probably the best result for us," Smit told the media. "There's certainly no chance of us catching them unmotivated right now. They'll be pretty motivated to turn things around."

The 33-year-old hooker will have debutant props on either side of him at scrum time, and the skipper have complete faith in Dean Greyling and Werner Kruger.

"These guys have come through a pretty successful campaign," he said. "Dean has gotten a chance now because of an injury to Gurthro Steenkamp and Werner's been going for quite some time, about three seasons, with pretty solid performances.

"They'll be nervous and I'm pretty sure Australia will want to have a crack at them as well up front.

"I'm sure they'll understand that but the boys have stepped up every week in Super Rugby so I can't see it being any different in a Test match."

Smit will extend his world record of Test matches as a captain to 77, and his Tri-Nations captaincy record to 29 matches. He will also equal Victor Matfield's career record of 22 caps against Australia, and needs one try to equal the Springbok record for most test tries as a hooker (James Dalton and Bismarck du Plessis are the current record holders with five tries each).
