Sevens flavour for the Pumas

Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse has named a versatile team full of Sevens speedsters to face the Golden Lions in their first Currie Cup match of the season in Johannesburg on Friday.

The Puma backline has a strong Springbok Sevens flavour to it with the return of MJ Mentz at fullback and an all-Blitzbokke centre pairing of JW Jonker and Pieter Engelbrecht.

Scrumhalf Shaun Venter is also a former national Sevens player, and has fought off the challenge from Tian Meyer for the No.9 jersey.

Engelbrecht, Jonker, Deon Scholtz (centre) and Marthinus van der Westhuizen (hooker) will make their Currie Cup debuts for the Pumas.
