Late call on Duvenhage

The Stormers are either playing head games or desperately trying to find a way for scrumhalf Dewald Duvenage to pass a late fitness test.

Despite well-placed sources confirming that Louis Schreuder will start at scrumhalf in the Super Rugby semifinal against the Crusaders at Newlands on Saturday, the Stormers camp insists Duvenhage has not formally been withdrawn.

Duvenage has been struggling with the calf injury - which has plagued him over the past month - for much of the build-up week to the Newlands clash.

Stormers assistant coach Robbie Fleck told rugby365.com that Duvenage's condition was much improved and he would face a 'final' fitness test on Friday.

However, following Friday's captain's run, the uncertainty surrounding the scrumhalf position deepened.

The Stormers camp indicated that no decision had been made and Stormers spokesman Gavin Lewis told this website that Duvenhage's name remains on the team sheet.

It has now been suggested coach Allister Coetzee has delayed a final call on Duvenage until Saturday ... till just before kick-off.

Schreuder, who trained with the Stormers for the entire week and was the starting scrumhalf against the Cheetahs in the final league match of the season, looks set to wear the No.9 jersey at Newlands on Saturday.

Nic Groom, who finished the Bloemfontein match at scrumhalf, has reportedly already been called up to sit on the bench.
