The president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) Pierre Camou revealed on Thursday that he would like to see the 2023 World Cup organised in France.

The 2023 tournament is the next tournament for which a host country has yet to be designated, with this year's event taking place in New Zealand followed by the tournaments in England (2015) and Japan (2019).

"A federation owes it to itself to have objectives and ambitions," said Camou.

"[The year] 2023 seems far away but it's just tomorrow, you have to prepare.

"For French rugby, we saw in 2007 [when France last hosted the World Cup] that organising a World Cup is an important event in the development of rugby."

Camou also gave his backing to plans to build a new, purpose-built stadium by 2017.

"I hope that in 2023 we'll have our own [stadium] and in this magnificent stadium that will be built, the World Cup could take place."
