Wasps hunt for Blues' Young

London Wasps are rumoured to be chasing the signature of Cardiff Blues boss Dai Young in their search for a new director of rugby.

However, the Blues have firmly denied reports that Young could be on his way out of Cardiff.

The Blues issued a statement on Wednesday that said: "We have had no approach from London Wasps regarding director of rugby David Young. David Young is still in contract at the Blues and has one year to run on that contract, which we expect him to honour."

Wasps appear confident that they could land Young as their new boss according to the BBC Radio 5, which would offer him a reunion with former Blues flyhalf Nicky Robinson and would be his first job in the English premiership.

The decision of Wales coach Warren Gatland to extend his contract with the national team could be a factor in Young's decision.

The ambitious coach has made no secret of his desire to coach Wales one day in the future when Gatland steps aside.

"I have always said that I think Dai's next port of call after the Cardiff Blues should be with the Wales national set up," Cardiff Blues chairman Peter Thomas told the BBC.
