In advance of the August 6th international match between Team Canada and the United States at BMO Field in Toronto, Rugby Canada has a number of special events to raise the profile of rugby to Canadians, and also raise money for Prostate Cancer Canada.
On Thursday, July 21 at Yonge-Dundas Square, rugby pros and amateurs alike are invited to join Rugby Canada in support of Prostate Cancer Canada for the charity event of the summer, Scrum in the Square. Whilerugby is an intense game that draws on equal parts of power and finesse, this event brings a charitable angle to the game, only a month before Canada competes in the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in September.
In crowning the ScrumMasters of Bay Street. corporate teams of four (three individuals competing and one alternate,) participants will contend for the strongest overall push against a scrum machine. A scrum machine, similar to a football blocking sled, will measure the amount of force generated as three competitors drive into it.
In addition to this corporate challenge, rugby clubs from around the province are invited to participate for the strongest push; prizes will also be given to teams with the best uniforms and for the top fundraisers.
Scrum in the Squarewill commence at 11:30AM and run until 1:30PM. Scrum in the Square will be a great way raise awareness of the upcoming match against the US and also to raise money for an important charity.
Media are invited to witness the first every scrum in the square, interview several Canadian international rugby players who will be representing Canada in New Zealand in September and also meet some of Toronto’s business community who are supporting a great cause.
Teams should register at www.scruminthesquare.com. We also encourage all teams to post a picture with their uniforms to our Facebook page prior to the event.
