The Bath flanker has retired from international rugby, standing down on Sunday after captaining England during their dismal World Cup campaign, having also featured in the victorious 2003 campaign and the 2007 final.
The 33-year-old won 71 caps in total and Hopley said: "Lewis is one of the great warriors of the game and has been a highly respected figure in international rugby for over a decade.
"The way Lewis has fought back from injury over recent years has been an inspiration to all professional players and he is admired throughout the game for his commitment to both club and country. He never gives less than 100% on and off the field and his leadership and presence will be missed at international level.
"I know that Lewis will continue to play a key role in Bath's success for the coming seasons, and I have no doubt that he will go down in history as one of the fiercest competitors ever to pull on an England shirt."
