Samo: Named on the wing against Russia

With a lengthy injury list, Deans has been forced to name the 35-year-old Reds back-row out of position against the World Cup new boys.

Samo made a try-scoring cameo out wide against the USA due to injuries, with the clash against the Eagles also seeing hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau employed as an emergency flanker.

Deans is without Pat McCabe (shoulder), Kurtley Beale (hamstring), Digby Ioane (broken thumb), Rob Horne (broken cheek), Anthony Faingaa (concussion) for the clash - meaning No.9s Will Genia and Nick Phipps will be the only backs cover on the bench.

"We've had to be a bit creative but it's never been about the number on their back," Deans said.

"While some of them might be out of their normal positions, they won't let us down and will enjoy the opportunity.

"We saw that last week with Radike and Tatafu in the match against the United States."

Deans has made a number of changes for the clash, with Berrick Barnes and Adam Ashley-Cooper teaming up in the centres, James O'Connor returning at full-back and Luke Burgess handed the No.9 shirt.

In the pack, flankers David Pocock and Scott Higginbotham return from injury while Ben McCalman moves to his favoured No.8 position.

Captain James Horwill has also been declared fit, while Stephen Moore and Sekope Kepu come into the front row.
